QuestionAnswer
Define variation. The presence of variety or differences between individuals.
What is inter-specific variation? Variation between species.
What is intra-specific variation? Variation within a species.
Variation can come from.. Meiosis, sexual reproduction, mutations.
Discontinuous variation is.. Variation with no or few intermediates, controlled by a single gene.
Continuous variation is.. Variation with intermediates present, controlled by more than one gene.
Give some examples of discontinuous variation. Blood group, gender, flower colour, presence of flagella.
Give some examples of continuous variation. Height, weight, length of leaves, length of stalk in toadstool.
Can genetic and environmental variation interact? If so, which type of variation is mostly likely to be affected? Yes, and continuous variation is most likely to be affected.
