alleles, heredity, offspring, genes, genotype, phenotype, chromosomes...

alleles different forms of a single gene
heredity passing of traits from parent to offspring
offspring the children of parents (also called progeny)
genes segments of DNA that code for specific characteristic traits
genotype an organism's genetic code for its physical appearance
phenotype an organism's physical appearance for a specific gene
chromosome coiled structure of DNA where genetic information is stored
homozygous having two identical alleles for a single trait (sometimes called purebred)
heterozygous having two different alleles for a single trait(sometimes called hybrid)
dominant a trait that will appear in the offspring even if only one of the parents contributes it. Shown by using a CAPITAL letter
recessive a trait that will appear in the offspring only if both of the parents contribute it. Shown by using a lower case letter.
