?What is the purpose of mitosis to create new body cells that are identical to the original cells
what happens during interphase? the cell is not dividing, but growing, duplicating DNA, and getting ready to divide
how many daughter cells are made during mitosis? 2 daughter cells
how many chromosomes are in each daughter cell made during mitosis? 46 chromosomes (diploid)
what are the phases of mitosis in order? prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase
what happens in prophase? duplicated chromosomes condense, nuclear membrane breaks down.
what happens in metaphase? duplicated chromosomes line up in the middle of cell
what happens in anaphase? sister chromatids of the duplicated chromatids are separated to opposite sides of the cell
what happens in telophase? nuclear membranes reform
what is cytokinesis? division of the cytoplasm
what could happen in something goes wrong with mitosis? cancer can form
