QuestionAnswer
scientific method a systematic method of research consisting of putting a hypothesis to a test designed to disprove it, if it is false.
Scientific theory body of scientifically accepted general principles that explain natural phenomena
Experiments set of actions or observations designed to test specific hypotheses.
Bias unfair influence to the results of an experiment caused by opinions that scientists and human research subjects
Blind experiment Individual subjects are not aware of exactly what they are predicted to experience
Double Blind experiment Neither the experimenter nor the subject are aware of the hypothesis and or whether the subject is in a control or experiment group
Correlation A relationship between two variables
Model organisms Stand ins for people when testing a hypothesis that might raise practical or ethical concerns if performed on humans
Independent variable Combining a series of specific observations to discern a general principle
Dependent variable Uses a general principle to predict an expected observation (if/then statements)
Significance Low probability that experimental groups differ simply by chance
Statistics numerical representation of the data
Sampling Error Difference between the sample of a population and the population as a whole
Anecdotal Information advice based on an individual's life experiences
