Drama Terms


Drama Is meant to be PERFORMED for an audience
Dialogue What actors/character so unlike short stories the audience cannot see into the minds of the character
Gestures Movement of body part become important to help the audience see how a character feels
Stage directions Tell the actor ; they are written in italics and are in brackets
Comedy A drama with a happy ending
Tragedy A drama with a tragic or unhappy ending
Tragic flow The qualify beliefs personality trait that leads to a leads a characters death
1 act play A drama with few characters few scenes usually lasts less than an hour.
Full length play many character many scenes many conflicts
Monologue a long speech by character on stage other character an hour of monologue
Aside a brief comment made by a character to another character or the audience not heard by others
Soliloquy A long speech made by a character in which his/her thoughts and feeling are revealed usually not meant to be heard by other character but it is meant to be heard by the audience
