Cell parts

Mitochondria breaks down organic molecules to release energy. "powerhouse"
Nucleolus makes ribosomes.
Vacuole temporary storage of materials. "shed" very large in plants, and very small if present in animals
Endoplasmic Reticulum (E.R.) tunnels through cytoplasm so things can move from place to place "subway"
Golgi ships stuff to where it needs to go. "post office"
Lysosome contains digestive enzymes that break down old parts of a cell. "wrecking ball"
Nucleus controls cellular functions ; contains DNA
Cytoplasm portion outside the cell that contains organelles ; site of many cellular reactions, such as *maintaining homeostasis.*
Plasma Membrane provides a barrier between the inside and outside of the cell
Nuclear Envelope seperates the nucleus from the rest of the cell
Ribosome where proteins are made
Chloroplast where photosynthesis occurs, stores cholorophyll *(sugar)* "bakery"
