Diffusion Also called migration. an intermingling of molecules,ions, etc., resulting from random thermal agitation, as inthe dispersion of a vapor in air.
Active Transport The movement of ions or molecules across a cellular membranefrom a lower to a higher concentration, requiring the consumptionof energy.
Endocytosis the transport of solid matter or liquid into a cell by means of acoated vacuole or vesicle
Exocytosis The transport of material out of a cell by means of a sac or vesiclethat first engulfs the material and then is extruded through anopening in the cell membrane
Osmosis The diffusion of fluids through membranes
Cilia minute hairlike organelles
Flagella a long, lashlike appendage serving as an organ of locomotion
Phospholipid Bilayer a two-layered arrangement of phosphate and lipid molecules that form a cell membrane
Cytoskeleton a shifting lattice arrangement of structural and contractile components distributed throughout the cell cytoplasm, composedof microtubules, microfilaments, and larger filaments, functioning as a structural support and transport mechanism.
Cytoplasmic Streaming the directed flow of cytosol (the liquid component of the cytoplasm) and organelles around large fungal and plant cells through the mediation of actin
