What is Science

| Homeostasis | Regulation of consistent internal conditions |
| Organism | Anything that possesses or once possessed the characteristics of life |
| Organization | Arranged in an orderly way |
| Reproduction | Production of offspring |
| Response | Reaction to a stimulus |
| Species | A group of organisms which breed and produce fertile offspring |
| Stimulus | Causes a reaction in an organism |
| Metric System | System of measuring with units based on the powers of 10 |
| Peer Review | A process by which researchers work is evaluated by other professionals in the field |
| Science | The body of knowledge based on the study of nature |
| Theory | An explanation of a natural phenomenon supported by many observations and experiments |
| Control Group | A group used for comparison in an experiment |
| Constant | A factor that is the same for all cases in an experiment |
| Data | Information gained from observations |
| Dependent Variable | Factor that is being measured during an experiment |
| Experiment | A controlled investigation into a natural phenomenon |
| Experimental Group | Group in an experiment being exposed to the factor being tested |
| Hypothesis | A testable explanation of a situation |
| Independent Variable | Factor that is being changed by the experimenter |
| Inference | Process of making a logical conclusion based on observed facts |
| Observation | A measureable/seeable characteristic of something |
| Scientific Method | Process generally followed by scientists to answer questions |
| Serendipity | occurence of accidental or unexpected, but fortunate results |
| Level | the values the independent variable is being tested at |
| Ethics | moral principles that govern a person's behavior or the conducting of an activity |
| Forensics | scientific tests or techniques used in connection with the detection of crime |
| Safety Symbol | used to communicate dangers during a lab |
| Trial | number of times each level is tested |
