Meiosis A type of cell division that produces four cells:each eith half the number of chromosomes as the parent cell.It creates haploid cells from Diploid cells
Chromatin Combination of DNA and protein molecules in the form of long thin fibers
Sister Chromatid One of a pair of identical chromosomes created before a cell divides
Diploid Cell that contains two homologous sets of chromosomes and are not found in sex cells
Haploid Cell with single set of chromosomes found in sex cells.
Homologous Chromosomes Two chromosomes that are the same
Tetrads Paired chromosomes (now four chromatids)
Chromosomes Condensed threads of genetic material formed from chromatin as a cell prepares to divide. (DNA woundup)
Karyotype A display of the fourty-six chromosomes of an individual
Sex Chromosomes The twenty-third pair of chromosomes.
Fertilization Fusion of the nuclei of the gametes in the cytoplasm.
Zygote Result of fertilization: the fertilized egg
Gametes Sex Cells (which are expectations for diploids
Crossing Over Exchange of genetic material between homologous chromosomes
Genetic Recombination Single chromosome made during crossover that contains a new combination of genetic information from both parents
