Macromolecules

QuestionAnswer
Carbohydrate Found in most foods. They are organic molecules made of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen.
Monosaccharide The building blocks of carbohydrates. An example is glucose.
Lipid Non-polar molecules that are not soluble in water. They include fats, waxes, and steroids. They make up cell membranes.
Protein Made by linking together a string of amino acids. Examples are hair, muscle, and skin.
Amino Acid The building blocks of proteins. There are 20 different ones.
Nucleic Acid A long chain of nucleotides. There are two types- DNA and RNA. It contains the genetic code.
Nucleotide Made of three parts- a sugar, a phosphate group, and a nitrogen base.
