| Predation | The act of one organism feeding on another, killing the organism it is feeding on. |
| Parasitism | One organism feeds on and usually lives on or in another, usually larger organism, but does not often kill their prey (the host). |
| Symbiosis | Two or more species live together in a close, long-term association. They can be good for both organisms, only one organism, or neither. |
| Mutualism | A symbiotic relationship where both organisms benefit from being together. |
| Commensalism | A symbiotic relationship where one species benefits and the other is neither harmed nor helped. |
| Competition | When two species fight for the same resource (space, food, water, mates, etc.) and the resource is in short supply. |
| Niche | The functional role an organism plays in the ecosystem. Where it lives, eats, and what it does. |
