Asexual Reproduction

QuestionAnswer
Cell Cycle A repeating sequence of cellular growth and division during the life of an organism.
Interphase Where the cell spends 90% of its time. It will only leave this phase when it is about to divide.
Mitosis The process during cell division in which the nucleus of a cell is divided into two nuclei.
Cytokinesis The process during cell division in which the cytoplasm divides.
Cancer The uncontrolled growth of cells. It is essentially a disorder of cell division.
Spindle Cell structure that make up the centrioles and individual microtubule fibers that are involved in moving chromosomes during cell division.
Prophase The first stage of mitosis where the chromosomes first become visible.
Metaphase The second stage of mitosis where the chromosomes line up along the middle.
Anaphase The third stage of mitosis where the chromosomes become separated.
Telophase Stage where the chromosomes are at opposite sides of the cell and begin to re-coil.
Asexual Reproduction Reproduction that involves only one parent and results in genetically identical offspring.
Binary Fission Form of asexual reproduction that produces identical offspring.
