A&P Lesson 3
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What does the plasma membrane do? | Separates cell contents to extracellular fliid |
| What does the cytoplasm do? | Material between cell membrane and nuclear membrane |
| What are the 2 subdivisions of cytoplasm? | Cytosol and organelles |
| Name 5 organelles | Cytoskeleton, microvilli, centrioles, cilia, and ribosomes |
| What are the 3 components of the plasma membrane? | glycocalyx, integral proteins, peripheral proteins |
| What are the functions of glycocalyx? | Bind to extracellular surface, lubrication of cell surface |
| What are the functions of integral proteins? | Can't be removed w/o damaging cell, transport water and solutes, often span entire cell |
| What are the functions of peripheral proteins? | Attached to cell membrane, but removable |
| What are the basics of active transport? | Require ATP, vesicular transport(materials move across cell membranes in small membranous sacs) |
| What are the basics of passive transport? | Don't require ATP, uses diffusion and carrier mediated transport |
| What is an example of diffusion? | Putting sugar in water, slowly dissolves and spreads throughout the water. |
| What are the 5 factors that influence diffusion rates? | distance, molecule size(both inversely related), temp, gradient |
