| Dominant | A gene that is always expressed. Written with CAPITOL LETTERS. |
| Recessive | A gene that is expressed only when there is no dominant gene. Written with lower case letters. |
| Homozygous | Two copies of the SAME gene (one from mom, one from dad). Example: brown eye gene & brown eye gene. Written as: BB or bb |
| Heterozygous | A copy of two DIFFERENT genes (one from mom, one from dad). Example: brown eye gene & blue eye gene. Written as Bb |
| Genotype | Combination of genes. Written as: BB, Bb, bb |
| Phenotype | Physical appearance. Written as a description: brown eyes, blue eyes, curly hair, straight hair, etc. |
