Cell Division

cell division The process by which one cell divides into two "daughter" cells
asexual reproduction The production of genetically identical offspring from one parent
sexual reproduction Offspring inherit some of their genetic information from each parent

chromatin Consists of DNA coiled around histones.
interphase period of the cell cycle between divisions
mitosis part of eukaryotic cell division during which the nucleus divides
cytokinesis division of the cytoplasm to form two separate daughter cells
prophase first and longest phase of mitosis
centromere region of a chromosome where the two sister chromatids attach
chromatid one of two identical "sister" parts of a duplicated chromosome.
centrioles structure in an animal cell that helps to organize cell division
metaphase second phase of mitosis
anaphase third phase of mitosis
telophase fourth phase of mitosis
