Bio Photosynthesis t

Photosynthesis Test: Photosystems, Process

QuestionAnswer
What is Photosynthesis? Light Energy is captured and converted into chemical potential energy in the form of glucose.
What is the Photosynthesis equation? 6 CO2 + 6 H2O + light energy -------> C6H12O6 + 6 O2
What is the structure of a chloroplast? Double-membraned; contains thylakoids and stroma.
What is a thylakoid and what process/processes takes place inside them? Flattened disk-like sacs that contain chlorophyll. Light-dependent reactions.
What is the stroma and what process/processes take place inside them? Fluid portion in the chloroplast. Light independent reactions or "dark reactions."
What is chlorophyll? Green photosynthetic pigment that makes plants green.
What is grana? Stacks of thylakoids put together.
What is a photosystem? An area of packed chlorophyll and acceptor molecules?
What is the structure of chlorophyll? Has a Porphyrin ring and phytol. The molecular structure allows the grouping of chlorophyll.
What is the electron carrier in photosynthesis? NADPH= NADH + Phosphate
What are the 3 steps of the Calvin Cycle? 1. Carbon Fixation (combines CO2 with RuBP) 2. PGA----->PGAL (PGAL formation uses energy) 3. Glucose formation and RuBP synthesis. (RuBP synthesis uses energy and 10 PGAL)
What is the first step of the cycle of photosynthesis? Water enters the light reactions.
What is the second step of the cycle of photosynthesis? Oxygen exits the light reactions.
What is the third step of the cycle of photosynthesis? ATP and NADPH are produced by light reactions. ATP and NADPH enters dark reactions.
What is the fourth step of the cycle of photosynthesis? CO2 enters the dark reactions.
What is the fifth step of the cycle of photosynthesis? ADP and NADP+
What is the sixth step of the cycle of photosynthesis? Glucose is produced.
What is the seventh step of the cycle of photosynthesis? Chemiosmosis.
Is photosynthesis an endergonic or an exergonic reaction? Why? Endergonic. There is an energy input (light).

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
