Infectious Disease An infectious disease is any disease that is caused by an agent that has invded the body.
Pathogen Any agent that causes disease
Bacteria tiny, single-celled organisms, some of which can cause disease
virus a tiny disease-causing particle that considts of genetic material and a protein coat
Fungus an organis, that absorbs and uses nutrients of living or dead organisms
Antibiotic Resistance a condition in which bacteria can no longer be killed by a particular antibiotic
Meningits an inflammation of the membrances covering the brian and spinal cord
Salmonellosis a bacterial infection of the digestive system, usually spread by eating contaminated foood
hepatitis an inflammation of the liver
amebic dysentery an inflammation of the intestine caused by an ameba
Cardiovascular disease a disease or disorder that results from progressive damage to the heart and blood vessels
Stroke a sudden attack of weakness or paralysis that occurs when a blood vessel in the brain bursts or become blocked
Blood pressure the force that blood exerts against the inside walls of a blood flow to the heart muscle
heart attack a sudden loss of blood flow to the heart muscle
Atherosclerosis a disease characterized by the buildup of fatty materials on the inside walls of the arteries
Cancer a disease caused by uncontrolled cell growth
malignant tumor a mass of cells that invades and destroys healthy tissue
benign tumor an abnormal, but usually harmless cell mass
chemotherapy the use of drugs to destroy cancer cells
