Sclera white fibrous outer layer of eye which protects the eye and acts as an attachment site for eye muscles
Cornea the transparent window of the eye which helps focus entering light rays
Iris colored part of the eye that surrounds the pupil and regulates its size. It is composed of smooth muscle.
Ciliary body eye structure that secretes aqueous humor (watery fluid filling the anterior portion of the eye which nourishes the cornea and lens and helps maintain eye shape), and contains the ciliary muscle.
Choroid has blood vessels to nourish eye
Pupil circular opening in the center of the iris which allows light to enter
Suspensory ligaments strong fibers holding the lens in position
Lens adjusts shape to focus in the process called accomodation
Retina inner layer of the eye containing the visual receptor cells (rods and cones, photoreceptors)
Macula lutea central region of the retina
Fovea depression in the center of the macula where the sharpest vision is produced
Optic disk where nerve fibers of the retina leave the eye and join with the optic nerve
Optic nerve carry nerve impulses to occipital lobe for deciphering vision
Conjunctiva mucous membrane lining the inside of the eyelids and covering the inside lining of the covering over the eyeball
Vitreous humor fluid between the lens and retina of the eye which helps protect and maintain shape
