QuestionAnswer
autotrophs organisms that use energy from sunlight or from chemical bonds in inorganic substances to make organic compounds
photosynthesis converts light energy from the sun into chemical energy in the form of organic compounds, primarly carbohydrates
heterotrophs animals and other organisms that must get energy from good unstead of directly from sunlight or inorganic substances
light reactions light energy (absorbed from the sun) is converted to chemical energy, which is temporarily stored in ATP and the energy carrier molecule NADPH.
Calvin Cycle Organic compounds are formed using CO2 nad the chemical energy stored in ATP and NADPH
chloroplasts organelles found in the cells of plants and algae; surrounded by a pair of membranes
thylakoids inside the inner membrane of chloroplasts and are arranged as flattened sacs
grana connects the thylakoids
stroma surrounds the grana
pigments compounds that absorb light
chlorophylls a very important pigments
carotenoids compounds found in the thylakoid membrane including yellow, orange, and brown
primary electron acceptor the acceptor of the electrons lost from chlorophyll a is a moolecule in the thylakoid membrane
electron transport chain the promary electron acceptor donates the electrons to the first of a series of molecules located in the thylakoid memrbane. These molecules are called ________.
chemiosmosis the process through light reacts is the synthesis of ATP
carbon fixation the incorporation of CO2 into organic molecules

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
