QuestionAnswer
The transport of molecules across a membrane by a carrier/channel protein. Facilitated Diffusion
A pair of organelles that play a role in the division of cells. Centriole
The point on a chromosome which is attached to a spindle fiber during cell division. Centromere
The material by which the chromosomes of organisms other than bacteria are composed of. (They are also made up of DNA and RNA). Chromatin
The two copies of a chromosome after it has been replicated. Sister Chromatid
The stage in which the cell increases in size during each division. Interphase
The first (and longest) stage of mitosis in which the chromosomes become visible and the nuclear envelope disappears. Prophase
The second phase of mitosis in which the chromosomes become attached to the spindle fibers. Metaphase
The third stage of mitosis in which the chromosomes move away from one another to opposite sides of the spindle. Anaphase
The fourth and last process of mitosis in which the chromosomes move to opposite ends of the cell, and two nuclei are formed. Telophase
Requires energy process by which matter is moved into the cell by engulfment. Endocytosis
