Define: Sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction Production of offspring that results when the genetic material from two different cells combine, asexual reproduction is the production of offspring by one parent without sperm or egg joining
Define: Haploid cells and diploid cells A haploid cell is a cell that contains one chromosome from each homologous pair, a diploid cell contains chromosomes that are equal to that organs species
Define: Egg and sperm Half the genetic material is contained in an egg cell, the other half in a sperm cell
Define: Fertilization, zygote, and selective breeding Fertilization is the fusing together of a sperm and egg cell, a zygote is the new cell that is formed, and selective breeding is controlled breeding where two animals are selected to breed
Define: Testes and ovaries Males have gonads called testes which produce sperm, females have gonads called ovaries which produce eggs
Define: Mitosis and Meiosis Mitosis is cell division and meiosis is cell division that produces sperm or eggs
Define: Homologous chromosomes A pair of similar chromosomes
Define: Metamorphosis Development process in which the form of the body changes as an animal grows from the egg to an adult
Define: Gestation The time between fertilization and birth
Define: Internal fertilization and external fertilization Internal fertilization is fertilization that occurs inside the parents body, external Fertilization is fertilization that occurs outside the females body
What is one advantage and disadvantage of sexual and asexual reproduction? Sexual reproduction has genetic variety but requires a mate, asexual reproduction dose not require a mate but has no genetic variety
