QuestionAnswer
algae (alga) Simple chlorophyll-bearing organisms lacking true stems, roots, or leaves. Unicellular and multicellular; divided into blue-green algae (similar to bacteria) and all other algae
bacteria (bacterium) Microscopic single-celled simple plants; some are harmful, some are helpful; classified according to shape
binocular Having two body tubes with corresponding eye pieces (bi = two, ocular = eye)
electron microscope A microscope that uses beams of electrons instead of beams of light, of much higher power than an ordinary microscope
fungi (fungus) Members of plant Thallophyta. lacking flowers, leaves, or chlorophyll, fungi derive nourishment from dead or living organic matter
microscope An instrument for making small objects look larger
monocular (mono = one, ocular = eye) Having on body tube with a corresponding eyepiece
protozoa Phylum comprising unicellular animals
resolving power The ability to clearly distinguish between two objects
rickettsia Disease-causing microorganism intermediate between bacteria and viruses, carried in the tissue of arthropods (insects, etc.)
virus One of a group of disease-causing substances. Dependent on living tissue for reproduction and growth
