Diffusion and Osmosis

Diffusion definition The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration
Osmosis definition The movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration (diffusion with water)
Facilitated diffusion definition When molecules that cannot fit between the spaces of the cell membrane diffuse through protein channels
Active Transport definition When molecules move from a lower concentration to a higher concentration
Isotonic definition When the solute concentrations are equal both inside and out of the cell
Hypertonic definition When the concentration of the solution is HIGHER than that of the cell
Hypotonic definition When the concentration of the solution is LOWER than that of the cell
