-Cell Transport-
Diffusion and Osmosis
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Diffusion definition | The movement of molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration |
| Osmosis definition | The movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration (diffusion with water) |
| Facilitated diffusion definition | When molecules that cannot fit between the spaces of the cell membrane diffuse through protein channels |
| Active Transport definition | When molecules move from a lower concentration to a higher concentration |
| Isotonic definition | When the solute concentrations are equal both inside and out of the cell |
| Hypertonic definition | When the concentration of the solution is HIGHER than that of the cell |
| Hypotonic definition | When the concentration of the solution is LOWER than that of the cell |

| Osmosis definition | Movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to lowere concentration (diffusion with water) |
