QuestionAnswer
cell The smallest unit that can preform all life processes.
Cell Membrane A phosolipid layer that covers a cells surface; acts as a baarrier between the inside of a cell and the cells enviorment
organelle one of the smallest bodies in a cells cytoplasm that are specialized to preform specific functions
nucleus in a eukaryotic cell, a membrane bound organelle that contains the cells DNA & has a role in process such as growth, metabolism, & reproduction
prokaryote an organism that contains of a single cell & doesnt have a nucleus.
Eukarote an organism made up of cells that have a nucleus enclosed by membrane; eukaryotes include animals, plants, & fungi.
cell wall a Rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane & provides support to the cell
Ribosome cell organelle composed of RNA & protein.
Endoplasmic Reticulum a system of membrane that is found in a cells cytoplasm &that assists in the production, processing, & transport of proteins & in the production of lipids
mitochondria in Eukaryotic cells the cell organelle that is surroundsed by two membranes & that is the site cellular resperation.
Golgi Complex cell organelle that helps make the package materials to be transported out of the cell.
vesicle A small cavity or sac that contains materials in a eukaryotic cell
lysosome a cell organelle that contains digestive enzymes
tissue A group of simmilar cells that preform a common function
organ a collection of tissues that carry out specialized functions of the body.
organ System A group of organs that work together to preform body functions.
organism a living thing; anything that can carry out life processes
Structure the arrangment of parts in a organism
function the special, normal, or proper activity of an organ or a part
diffusion the movement of particals from regions of higher density to regions of lower density.
osmosis the diffusion of water through a semi-premerable membrane.
passive transport the movement of substances across the cell membrane without the cell to use energy
Active transport The movement of substances across the cell membane that requires the cell to use energy
Endocytosis The process by which a cell membrane surrrounds a particle & incloses it in a vesicle to bring the partical into the cell
exocytosis the process in which a cell releases a particle by enclosing the particle in a vesicle that then moves to the cell surface & fuses with the cell membrane.
photosynthesis the process by which plants, alge, & some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, & water to make food.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
