QuestionAnswer
WHAT IS TRAIT? A VARIATION OF A PATICULAR CHARACTER
PARTICULATE HYPOTHESIS SAY THAT : PARENTS PASS ON TO THEIR OFFSPRING SEPARATE AND DISTINCT FACTORS(GENES) THAT ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR INHERITED TRAITS
BIOLOGISTS PROPOSED THE BLENDING HYPOTHESIS WHICH SAY : OFFSPRING WOULD BE A BLEND OF PARENTS TRAITS
BOTH BLENDING AND PARTICULATE HYPOTHESIS TRY TO EXPLAIN THE INHERITANCE OF TRAITS . TRUE OR FALSE TRUE
PARTICULATE HYPOTHESIS STATES THAT PARENTS PASS ON DISTINCT FACTORS THAT RETAIN THEIR IDENTITIES IN OFFSPRING. TRUE OR FALSE TRUE
BLENDING HYPOTHESIS STATES THAT PARENTS' HEREDITARY MATERIAL BLENDS IN THE OFFSPRING
WHAT IS CALL WHEN THE SPERM FROM ONE INDIVIDUAL FERTILIZE THE EGGS OF ANOTHER INDIVIDUAL? CROSS FERTILIZATION
WHAT IS CALL Fusion of male and female sex cells (gametes) produced by the same individual ? SELF FERTILIZATION
WHAT IS THE NAME FOR OFFSPRING OF 2 DIFFERENT TRUE BREEDING VARIETIES LIKE - PARENTAL PLANTS = P GENERATION - HYBRID OFFSPRING = F1 GENERATION ? HYBRIDS
WHAT IS A NAME FOR PARING IN WHICH THE PARENT PLANT DIFFER IN ONLY ONE TRAIT? MONOHYBRID CROSS
ALLELES ARE ALTERNATIVE FORMS OF GENES
HOMOZYGOUS ARE : THE 2 ALLELES FOR A GENE ARE THE SAME DD OR dd
HETEROZYGOUS IS THE 2 ALLELES FOR A GENE ARE DIFFERENT Dd
DOMINANT IS THE ONLY ALLELE THAT APPEARS TO AFFECT THE TRAIT OF A HETEROZYGOUS INDIVIDUAL
RECESSIVE IS THE ALLELE THAT DOES NOT APPEAR TO AFFECT THE TRAIT OF A HETEROZYGOUS INDIVIDUAL
PUNNETT SQUARE IS A TYPE OF DIAGRAM THAT SHOWS ALL POSSIBLE OUTCOMES OF A GENETIC CROSS
GENOTYPE IS THE GENETIC MAKEUP OR COMBINATION OF ALLELES
PHENOTYPE IS AN OBSERVABLE TRAIT
BREEDS AN INDIVIDUAL OF UNKNOWN GENOTYPE, BUT DOMINANT PHENOTYPE WITH A HOMOZYGOUS RECESSIVE INDIVIDUAL IS CALL TESTCROSS
WHEN ORGANISMS THAT ARE CROSSED DIFFER IN 2 TRAITS IS CALL DIHYBRID CROSS
PRINCIPLE OF INDEPENDENT ASSORTMENT TELL US THAT : DURING GAMETE FORMATION A PARTICULAR ALLELE FOR ONE GENE CAN BE PAIRED WITH EITHER ALLELE OF ANOTHER GENE
PRINCIPLE OF SEGREGATION TELL US THAT : THE 2 ALLELES FOR A GENE SEGREGATE (SEPARATE) DURING THE FORMATION OF GAMETES(SEX CELLS)
How is the genetic determination of sex established in humans? In the diploid genome of human beings there are 46 chromosomes, 44 of them are autosomes and two are sex chromosomes.
Do the genes of the X and Y chromosomes determine only sex characteristics? Besides sex genes the sex chromosomes have also autosomal genes, genes that codify several proteins related to nonsexual traits.
What are the main diseases caused by errors of the number of sex chromosomes in the cells of an individual? Diseases caused by abnormal number of sex chromosomes are called sex aneuploidies.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
