What is photosynthesis? Photosynthesis is the conversion of light energy into chemical energy that is stored in sugar.
Why are plants called autotrophs? Plants are called autotrophs because they make their own food through photosynthesis.
What are autotrophs? Autotrophs are living organisms that can produce their own food for energy.
Why are the leaves and stems of a plant green? The green color comes from the light that plants absorb and reflect. Plants absorb most all colors except green light. The green light that is reflected gives the plant its green color.
What do plants use to create chemical energy (sugar/glucose)? Plants use CO2 (carbon dioxide), H2O (water), and light energy.
What is the chemical equation for photosynthesis? 6CO2+12H2O+light ---> 6O2+6H2O+C6H12O6
When do the light reactions take place? The light reactions take place during the day because they need light.
When do the dark reactions take place? They occur during the night and the day because they don't need the light, just the energy.
