Microscope Vocabulary
| Question | Answer |

| Arm | used to support and carry the microscope |
| Eyepiece | allows you to view the image on the stage and contains the ocular lens |
| Nosepiece | holds the objective lenses and is able tp change magnification |
| Objective Lenses | found on the nosepiece and range from low to high power |
| Stage Clips | used to hold a slide in place on the stage |
| Light Source | also called the illuminator, this projects light upwards through the diaphragm to allow the specimen to be viewed |
| Coarse Adjustment Knob | moves the stage up and down to help you get the specimen into view; first know you adjust |
| Fine Adjustment Knob | moves the stage slightly to help you "fine" tune your view of the specimen |
| Diaphragm | enables you to adjust the amount of light passing through the specimen |
| Base | bottom of the microscope |
| Stage | supports the slide that is being viewed |
| Cover Slip | small plastic or glass piece that is used to cover a liquid drop on a slide |
| Slide | Small glass plate on which specimen is placed for viewing |
| Power | refers to the degree of magnification of a lens |
| Total Magnification | the power of the ocular lens multiplied by the power of the objective lens |
| Dry Mount Slide | slide used for viewing objects that are not wet and can not use a coverslip |
