PARTS OF A CELL
The parts of the cell
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| nucleus | The control center of the cell |
| Chromatin (DNA) | Granular material you can see in the nucleus that consists of DNA bound to protein |
| Nucleolus | A small dense region in the nucleus where the assembly of ribosomes begin |
| Cytoplasm | The portion of the cell outside the nucleus. Cytoplasm and nucleus work together |
| Ribosome | Small particles of RNA and protein found in cytoplasm- produce protein by following coded instruction from the nucleus |
| Smooth ER | no ribosomes |
| Rough ER | contains ribosomes |
| Golgi apparatus | modify, sort, and package proteins and others from the er for storage in the cell or secretion outside the cell |
| ER | lipid components of the cell membrane are assembled with proteins |
| lysosome | small organelles filled withe enzymes- digestion of lipids, carbs, proteins, into small molecules |
| Flagella, Cilia | aid in feeling and movement in the cell |
| mitochondria | convert energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use |
| chloroplast | organelles that capture the energy from sunlight and convert it into chemical energy with photosynthesis |
| vacuole | sac like structures that store water, salts, protein and carbs |
| cytoskeleton | a network of protein filaments that helps the cell to maintain its shape involved in movement |
| cell membrane | thin flexible barrier that regulates what enters and leaves the cells |
| cell wall | the outer boundaries of a plant cell |
