Bio: Oraganelles
Functions of Organelles
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| nucleolus | produces ribosomes and provides structure for nucleus |
| centriol | aid in cell division and are composed of two short microtubules at right angles to each other |
| nucleus | hold and protect DNA |
| cytosol | soluble part of the cytoplasm |
| cytoplasm | includes the fluid, cytoskeleton and all organelles except the nucleus |
| chromatin | makes up chromosomes/carry genetic material |
| Mitochondria | provide energy for cell/make energy rich molecules |
| Golgi Vesicles | packages materials to be transported elsewhere the package |
| Nuclear membrane | regulate what goes in and comes out of the nucleus, protect nucleus, semi-permeable |
| rough ER | produce phospholipids and proteins, synthesize and transport ribosomes |
| smooth ER | lipids and hormone synthesis |
| ribosome | site of protein synthesis, composed of RNA and proteins |
| cell membrane | protects cell, selectively permeable, composed of a phospholipid bi-layer |
| vacuole | stores water and nutrients |
| microfilaments and microtubules | provide structure for cell |
| lysosomes | digest/break down and reuse old organelles |
| chloroplast | site of photosynthesis |
| cell wall | provide and maintain the shape of a plant cell, protective barrier, gives plant rigidity |
