7 Grade- Cells&Vocab

QuestionAnswer
Cell Membrane A thin membrane that forms the outer surface of a cell.
Cell Wall A rigid, transparent outer covering of a plant cell, made up of cellulose and other materials, and surrounded the cell membrane.
Centriole Hollow, Cylindrical organelle which forms spindle fibers to seperate chromosomes during cell division.
Chloroplast An organelle that contains a green chemical called chlorophyll, and is the site of photosynthesis.
Cytoplasm A semi-fluid mediam between the nucleus and the cell membrane.
DNA(deoxyribonucleic acid) A double stranded molecule that is in all living cells, and is the gentic material organisms inherit from their parents
Golgi Complex An organelle that stacks, ships, and packages products which come from the endoplasmic reticulumn (i.e. proteins).
Endoplasmic Reticulumn a transport system, modifies proteins, makes macromolecules, and transfers substances throughout the cell.
Lysosome an organelle that contains digestive enzymes which break down macromolecules and are in the golgi complex.
Mitochondria An organelle where most of the cells energy is made.
nucleus the control center of a cell that contains DNA inside a delicate membrane.
Peroxisome contains enzymes that function to rid the body of toxic substances. Unlike lysosomes peroxisomes self-replicate by dividing high numbers of peroxisomes can be found in the liver.
Ribosome main site for protein synthesis
RNA(ribonucleic acid) Similar to DNA, and is single stranded and found outside the nucleus. it delivers the message for protein synthesis.
Rough Endoplasmic Reticulumn To which ribosomes are attached; the attached ribosomes make it appear bumpy and specializes in protein synthesis.
Vacuole A membrane closed sac involved in diverse storage functions.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
