Cells and Cell Parts

QuestionAnswer
Flexible outer layer that separates a cell from its environment. Controls what enters and leaves the cell. Cell Membrane
Powerhouse of the cell. Takes glucose (sugar) and turns it into usable energy. Mitochondria
Acts as a pathway through the Cytoplasm where complex molecules are manufactured from basic ones. Endoplasmic Reticulum
Headquarters or Control Center of the Cell. Nucleus
Gel-like material inside a cell. Mostly water. Cytoplasm
Storage areas that hold food, water, and wastes. Small in animal cells, large and central in plant cells. Vacuoles
Vesicles that contain digestive enzymes to break down old and harmful things in the cell. Lysosome
Helps in cell reproduction (division), but only in Animal cells. Centriole
Provides extra support and protection for only plant cells. Cell Wall
Contains chlorophyll (making it green) which allows plants to make sugars from sunlight. Chloroplast
Contained in the nucleus and contains the directions for the organelles and cell as well as your traits. DNA
Packages that carry produced goods to other parts of the cell and beyond. Vesicles
Organelles where goods are packaged up to be sent to different places. Golgi Bodies
These make proteins from instructions given from the Nucleus. Usually housed in the E.R. Ribosomes
Controls what goes into and out of the Nucleus. Nuclear Membrane
