cell membrane semi-permeable, allows certain substances in and out of the cell
cell wall permeable, non-living layer in plant cells only, gives plant structure
chloroplast in plants only, contains chlorophyll, photosynthesis occurs here
cytoplasm made of 80% water, holds organelles in place
endoplasmic reticulum extension of the nuclear membrane, canals that move substances such as proteins
Golgi body activates, packages, and adds a chemical tag to proteins
lysosome only in animal cells, contain digestive enzymes
mitochondria site of cellular respiration, breaks down glucose to release energy
nucleus contains DNA, controls cell processes
ribosome creates inactive protein, found on ER and in the cytoplasm
nuclear membrane selectively permeable, surrounds the nucleus, protects the DNA inside the nucleus
vacuole bigger in plants, storage area for water, food and waste products
