Cell Parts

The parts of a cell and what they do

What is the cell theory? the cell is the basic unit of life, all cells come from pre-excisting cells, all living things are made of cells.
What are prokaryotic Cells? They have NO nucleus. Example: Bacteria
What are Eurkaryotic Cells? Cells that have a nucleus and membrane bound organelles. Example: Plants, cows, humans, fungi,
What is the Cell (Plasma) Membrane? It surrounds and protects the cell. It controls what comes in and what enters or exits.
What is the microvilli? Finger like projections that help cells capture nutrients.
What is the Cytoplasm? Slightly saline solution inside the cell. Supports the organelles.
What are the Centroiles? They are used during cell division to move chromosomes.
What is the Vacuole? It stores water, food, and waste.
What is the Golgi Apparatus (Golgi Body)? It packages and processes proteins.
What is a Mitochondrion? The site of cellular resperations. Makes energy for the cells.
What is the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum? It transports substances.
What is the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum? It transports substances with ribosomes attached.
What are the Ribosomes? The place where protein is made.
What are the Microtubules? (Cytoskeleton) It helps support the cells.
What are Lysosomes? Contain digestive enzymes and detoxify the cell. It destroys bacteria.
What is the Nuclues? Its the control center of the cell, contains DNA, and directs the cells activity.
Whats the Nuclear Membrane? It surrounds and protects the nuclues.
What is the Nucleolus? Its inside the Nucleus, Makes RNA
What is the Chromatin threads? Its the strands of DNA
