|---|---|
| Cell | A collection of living matter enclosed by a barrier that seperates the cell from it's surroundings |
| Cell Theory | The idea that all living things are composed of cells |
| Nucleus | a large membrane-enclosed structure that contains the cell's genetic material in the form of DNA |
| Eukaryotes | Cells that contain nuclei. |
| Prokaryotes | Cells that do not contain nuclei. |
| Organelles | Little structures that act like specialized organs. |
| Cytoplasm | The portion of the cell outside the nucleus. |
| Nuclear Envelope | Surrounds the nucleus with TWO membranes. |
| Chromatin | Granular material you can see in the nucleus. |
| Chromosomes | Distinct, threadlike structures that contain the genetic information that is passed from one generation of cells to the next. |
| Nucleolus | Small dense region in the nuclei. |
| Ribosomes | Small particles of RNA and protein found throughout the cytoplasm. |
| Endoplasmic Reticulum | An internal membrane system in Eukaryotic cells. |
| Golgi Apparatus | Organelle |
| Lysosomes | Small organelles filled with enzymes. |
| Vacuoles | Saclike structures that store materials such as Water, Salts, Proteins, and Carbohydrates. |
| Mitochondria | Organelles that convert the chemical energy stored in food into compounds that are more convenient for the cell to use. |
