|---|---|
| Cells | The basic units of life. |
| Cell Theory | -all living things are composed of cells -cells are the basic units of structure and function in cells -new cells are produced from old cells |
| nucleus | part of the cell that contains the genetic info. |
| eukaryotes | cells that contain nuclei |
| prokaryotes | cells that dont have nuclei |
| Organelles | little organs in a cell |
| cytoplasm | part of cell outside nucleus |
| nuclear envelope | the two membranes that encloses the nucleus |
| chromatin | stuff inside nucleus |
| chromisomes | distinct threadlike structures that contain genetic information |
| nucleolus | where the assembaly of ribosomes begins. |
| ribosomes | small particles of RNA and protien found thrughout the cytoplasim |
| endoplasmic reticulum | the site where lipid componts of the cell membraneare assembled along with protiens and other materials that are exported from the cell |
| Golgi apparatus | change materials for storage or excretion |
| lysosomes | small organells filled with enzymes |
| vacuoles | saclike structures |
| mitochoncondria | convert compounds to compounds that are useful |
| chloroplasts | organelles that preform photosynthesis |
| centrioles | help organize cell division |
| cell membrane | thin barier around a cell |
| cell wall | strong supporting layer |
| lipid bilayer | out and inside of cell membrane |
| concentration | mass of solute in a given volume |
| diffusion | when one area is more concentrated |
| equilebrium | concentration same |
| osmosis | diffusioin of water tru a selectivly permiable membrane |
| isotonic | same strength |
| hypertonic | above strength |
| hypotonic | below strength |
| facilated diffusion | help the diffusion of glucose |
| active transport | transport that needs energy |
| endocytosis | taking in tru infols or pockets |
| phagocytosis | cell eating |
| pinocytosis | pockets filled vith liquids become vacuoles |
| exocytosis | releaing large amounts of material |
| cell specialization | cells developing into specific tasks |
| tissue | group of simular cells that preform the same function. |
| organ | many groups of tissues working together |
| organ system | group of organs working together to preform a simular function. |
| cytoskele4ten | internal supporting structure |
