Nucleus a large memrane-nclosed structure that contains that contains the cells genetic code in the form of DNA
Eukaryotes cells that contain nuclei
Prokaryotes cells that do not contain nuclei
Organelles specialized organs
Cytoplasm portion of the cell outside the nucleus
Nuclear Envelope outer wall of a nucleus with pores
Chromatin the granual material you can see in the nucleus
Chromosomes when a cell divides chromatin condenses is formed
Nucleolus a small dense region located in the nucleous
Ribosomes small particles of RNA and protein
Endoplasmic Reticulum an internal membrane system
Golgi Apparatus an organelle
Lysosomes small organelles filled with enzymes
Vauoles store materials such as water etc
Mitochondria organelles that convert energy stored in food to compounds that are easier for the cell t use
Chloroplasts organelles that capture the energy from sunlight
Cytoskeleton give the cell its shape and structure
Centrioles located near the nucleus to help organize cell division
Cell Membrane a thin layer on the outside of every cell that makes a wall
Cell wall another layer outside the cell membrane that is hard
Lipid Bilayer the copsition of almost all cell membranes is the double layered sheet
Concentration the mass of solute in a given volume of solution
Diffusion when the concentratoin of a solute is the same throughout the system
Equilibrium " "
Osmosis the diffusion of water through a selectively permeable membrane
Isotonic when they're both the same strength
Hypertonic above strength
Hypotonic below strength
Endocytosis the process of taking material into the membrane
Phagocytosis extensions of cytoplasm surround a particle and package it within a food vacule
Pinocytosis process to form vacuoles inside a cell
Exocytosis the process to release large amounts of material from the cell
Cell specialization the process in which certain cells take on certain tasks

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
