| Homeostatis | The maintenance of a constant internal state in a changing environment. |
| Sexual Reproduction | Reproduction in which the sex cells from 2 parents unite, producing offspring that share traits from both parents. |
| Asexual Reproduction | Reproduction in which one parent produces offspring identical to itself. |
| Heredity | The passing of genetic traits from parent to offspring. |
| Metabolism | The sum of all chemical processes that occur in an organism. |
| Producer | An organism that can make its own food. |
| Consumer | An organism that eats other organisms. |
| Decomposer | An organism that gets energy by breaking down the remians of dead organisms and consuming the nutrients. |
| Cell Membrane | Surrounds all cells and controls movement of material in & out of cells. |
| Nucleus | Control center of a cell; regulates all cell activities & contains chromosomes. |
| Prokaryote | An organism that consists of a single cell that does not have a nucleus. |
| Eukaryote | An organism that has a nucleus enclosed by a membrane |
| Tissue | A group of cells that perform a similar function. |
| Organ | A collection of tissues that carry out a specialized function of the body. |
| Organ System | A group of organs that work together to perform body functions. |
| Cell Wall | A rigid structure that surrounds the cell membrane and provides support to the cell. |
| Ribosome | a small, grain-like organelle that makes protein. |
| Endoplasmic reticulum | A system of tubular passageways that transport materials through the cell |
| Mitochondria | “Powerhouse” of the cell; converts food into energy as ATP. |
