social consequences - develop __ __ __ PID (Pelvic inflammatory disease)
6 most important STDs: AIDS (technically not STD), genital herpes, venereal warts, chlamydia, gonorhea, syphilis
3 viral diseases: AIDS, genital herpes, venereal warts (no cure)
3 bacterial diseases: chlamydia, gonorhea, syphilis (treatable)
gonorrhea bacterial disease, invades white blood cells, 50%-75% of females are asymptomatic
syphilis bacteria, "great imitator"
chlamydia bacterium, genital & urinary tracts, PID and sterility, possibly death, or ectopic pregnancy
genital herpes viral, dormant (or latent) until triggered
venereal warts (genital warts) papilloma virus, 90% of cervical cancer tissues studied to date
Hepatitis B inflammation of the liver; bloodborne pathogen; virus found in blood, saliva, & other body fluids; sexual content is currently the primary way of catching HBV
PID pelvic inflammatory disease
Top 3 reportable diseases 1) gonorrhea 2) chickenpox 3) syphilis (chlamydia is not required to be reported but occurs in greater numbers than gonorrhea)
