Science

QuestionAnswer
Organelles A structure inside a cell that carries out functions to ensure the surrvival of the cell.
Cell Membrane Protects the cell and limits the movement of particles in and out of the cell.
The Nucleus Controls activities within the cell It also contains DNA
Mitochondria A form of organelles that produce energy in the cell
Ribosomes Organelles that essemble proteins
Endoplasmic reticulum A network of membrane covered channels in which protein passes through
Golgi Body Sort and pack protein into VESICLES.
Vacuoles Temporary storage compartments that can hold waste. Plant Vacuole are larger because the hold more water
Lysosomes Break down cell waste and worn out organelles.
5 Characteristics of Living things 1. All living things produce energy 2. All living things can reproduce 3. Living things grow 4. All living things respond to their enviroment (stimulus and stimuli) 5. Livings things reproduce waste
Compound Light Microscope Low Power=4x Medium Power=10x High Power= 40x To get the total magnafictation you multiply the objective by the eyepiece. e.g.: _x10=_
Resolving Power The ability to see between 2 dots that are very close together.
Image flipping When looking in a microscope the image is flipped sideways then upside down.
Cytoplasm A jelly like substance within a cell containing the organelles.
Cell Wall Only found in plant cells, gives the cell its shape.
Cholroplast Parts of plant cells that trap energy and change it into energy that plants use.
Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic Prokaryotic cells have organelles that are not surronded by membranes, Eukaryotic cell organelles are. Eukaryotic cells are normally larger.
Cell Theory The cell is the basic unit of life All of organisms are composed of on or more cell All cells come from other living cells
Bacteria Are prokaryotic cells, Some cause diseses. Grouped by the shape of there cells
Viruses Are not living, do not contain cell organelles, reproduce using a host cell
Ribosomes assemble protein

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
