What is Ecology the scientific study of interactions among organisms between organisms and their environment.
What is the Bio Sphere? contains combined portions of the planet in wihch all life exists: including land, water, and air or atmosphere.
What do you call a group of organisms so similar to one another that they can breed and produce fertile offspring? Species
What are populations? groups on individuals that belong in the same species and live in the same areas.
What are assemblages of different populations that live together in a defined area? Communities
What is an ecosystem? a collection of all organisms that live in a particular place.
What are Autotrops? Organisms that use energy from the environment to fuel the assembly of simple inorganic compounds into complex molecules.
organisms that rely on other organisms for their energy and food supply are called... hetertotrophs
What is a food web? links all the food chains in an ecosystem together.
Each step in a food chain or food web is called a... trophic level
What is biomass? Usually expressed in terms of grams of organic matter per unit area.
Elements, chemical compounds,and other forms of matter are passed from one part of the biosphere to another through... biogeochemical cycles
When an ecosystem is limited by a single nutrient that is scarce or cycles very slowly, this substance is called... limiting nutrient
