Vocab Word:Definition:
1. Photosynthesis: The process by which plants, algae, and some bacteria use sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to produce carbohydrates and oxygen.

3. Chloroplast: An organelle found in plant and algae cells where photosynthesis occurs.
4. Thylakoid: A membrane system found within chloroplasts that contains the components for photosynthesis.
5. Granum: A stack of thylakoids in a chloroplast
6. Stroma: In plants, the solution that surrounds the thylakoids in a chloroplast
7. Chlorophyll: A green pigment that is present in most plant cells, that gives plants their characteristic green color, and that reacts with sunlight, carbon dioxide, and water to form carbohydrates.
8. Carotenoid: A class of pigments that are present in the thylakoid membrane of plants and that aid in photosynthesis
9. Calvin Cycle: A series of enzyme-assisted chemical reactions that produces a three-carbon sugar.
10. Carbon Fixation*: The incorporation of carbon atoms from CO in the atmosphere are bonded into organic compounds.
11. Accessory Pigment: Used to help capture light energy
