chemosynthesis the process which an organism uses energy stored in inorganic molecules to produce carbohydrates.
gross primary productivity the rate at which producers in an ecosystem capture the energy of sunlight
biomass organic material produced in an ecosystem.
net primary productivity the rate at which biomass accumulates.
consumers obtain energy by eating other organisms or organic waste.
herbivore eats plants/producers
carnivore eats other consumers/meat
omnivore eats both producers and consumers/ plants an animals
detritivores eat waste/dead things
decomposers detritivores that cause decay and break down organic material.
trophic level position in a sequence of energy transfers
food chain a single pathway of feeding relationships among organisms ina an ecosystem that results in energy transfer.
food web interrelated food chains in an ecosystem.
