Habitat A place where an organism lives
Biotic Factor The living components of the environment
Abiotic Factor The nonliving factors are the physical and chemical characteristics of an environment
Tolerance Curve A graph performance versus values of an environment variable, such as temperature
Acclimation organisms can adjust thier tolerance to abriotic factors
Conformer Organisms that do not regulate their internal conditions; they change as their external environment changes
Regulator Organisms that use energy to control some internal conditions
Dormancy A longer-term strategy is to enter a state of reduced activity, such as a drought
Migration Another strategy is to move to a more favorable habitat
Niche A specific role, or way of life, of an oragnism within its environment
Generalist species with broad niches; they can tolerate a range of conditions and use a varitey of resources
Specialist Species that have narrow niches
