| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What are Macromolecules? | They are large organic molecules(also called polymers). The building blocks of macromolecules are called monomers. Its monomers is amino acids, and its polymer is protein. ex. carbohydrates, lipids, protein, DNA,RNA. |
| What is Dehydration Syenthisis? | Also called Condinsation reaction, forms polymers by combining monomers by "removing water". |
| How are macromolescules seperated? | Hydralysis seperateds by adding water to break it down. |
| What are Carbohydrates? | small/large sugar molecules. ex. Glucose, Fructose. a:monosaccharide, b: disaccharide, C: polysaccharide. |
| What are lipids? | They are NOT soluble in water, but ARE soluble in hydrophobic solvents.(acids) They store most the energy. ex. fats, phsophalipids, oils, waxes, trigliserides, and steroid hormones(testosterone). |
| What are the six functions of lipids? | Long term energy, protection against heat loss, protection against physical shock, protection against water loss, chemical messangers(hormones), and phosphalipids. |
| What are proteins? | They are amino acids. Six functions are: storage: albumin (egg whites) transport: hemoglobin regularatory: hormones movement: muscles structure: membranes (hair) and Enzymes: celluar reaction |
| what are nucleic acids? | DNA and RNA are the two types. They are composed of nucleatides linked by hydrogen synthesis. |
