Classification, variation and speciation
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What does Hardy-Weinberg rely on | No mutations, no movement of gene pool, no naturel selction, large population, random mating |
| What is the Hardy-Weinberg equation? | q2 + 2pq + q2 = 1 |
| What does naturel selection result from? | Differant fertility of organisms |
| What is the theory of naturel selction? | That allele frequency will increase for the most successful gene, as they will breed mor successfully |
| What is directional selction? | Movement of population towards diferant characteristic due to selective pressure |
| What causes directional selection? | Environmental change |
| What is stabalising selction? | The removal of the extremes of a gene, leaving the moderates |
| What causes stablising selection? | it occurs naturelly in all organisms |
| What is disruptive selction? | Removal of moderates to leave the extremes |
| What causes disruptive selection? | Large environmental changes |
| What is speciation? | Formation of 2 species from one |
| What are the two types of speciation? | Allopatric and sympatric |
| What are the differances between the two types of speciation? | Allopatric caused by geograpical sepaation, symapatric occurs within the same environment |
| Why can sympatric speciation occur? | Mechanical isolation, gamates prevented from meeting, no fusion of gamates, hybrid inviability, hybrid sterility, behavioural isolation |
| What is mechanical isolation? | Incompatabilty of genetalia, leads to sympatric speciation |
| What is hybrid inviabiity? | Failure of the embryo to develop, leads to sympatric speciation |
| What is hybrid sterility? | Inability of chromosomes to pair, leads to sypatric speciation |
| What happens when you move from species to kingdom? | Number of organisms increases |
| What happens when you move from kingdom to species? | Number of simularities increases |
| What are the 5 kingdoms? | Prokaryote, Protoctista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia |
| Which kingdoms contain prokaryotic cells? | Prokaryotes |
| Which kindoms contain eukaryotic cells? | Protoctista, fungi, plantae, animalia |
| Do prokaryotes have a cell wall? | Yes |
| Do Protoctista have a cell wall? | Some |
| Do Fungi have a cell wall? | Yes |
| Do Plantae have a cell wall? | Yes |
| Do animalia have a cell wall? | No |
