Cell Struct
Part 1
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is the 6 functions of cells? | Basic Unit of Life, Protection and support, movement, communication, cell metabolism, inheritance. |
| Organelle | 'little organs' structures within cells |
| Cell Membrane/Plasma Membrane | Outermost component of the cell |
| Extracellular substance | substances outside the cell |
| Intracellular substance | substances inside the cell |
| Mosaic Model | studies of the arrangement of molecules in the cell membrane |
| Nucleus | large organelle located near center of the cell; control center. |
| Nucleolus | inside the nucleus, site of ribosomal TNA and ribosomal protein synthesis |
| Rough ER | ER with ribosomes attached to it |
| Smooth ER | ER without ribosomes attached to it |
| Golgi Apparatus | collects, modifies, packages, and distributes proteins and lipids manufactured by ER |
| Lysosomes | are membrane-bound vesicles formed from the golgi. |
| Mitochondrion | powerhouse of the cell |
| Microtubules | are hollow structures formed from protein subunits that perform a variety of roles, provides cytoplasm |
| Cilia | cylinder shape, contain specialized microtubules, enclosed by the cell membrane |
| Flagella | similar to cilia, but are longer; only one per cell |
| Microvilli | extensions of the cell membrane; supported by microfiaments |
| Ribosomes | where proteins are produced |
| Cytoskeleton | consists of proteins that support the cell, hold organelles in place, and enable the cell to change shape. |
