Scientific Method Four steps included - Observing and stating a problem -Forming a hypothesis -Testing the hypothesis -Recording and analyzing data -Forming a conclusion -Replicating the work
Hypothesis a possible explanation, a preliminary conclusion, or even a guess about some event in nature
Variable single factor that is isolated and tested in an experiment
Control setup Part of the experiment that does not include the variable
Experimental setup part of experiment that contains the variable being tested
Therory when an idea or thought is tested and confirmed often enough that it is unlikely to be disproved by future tests
Metric System a decimal system based on certain standards and scaled on multiples of 10
Length the basic unit of length in the metric system is the meter (m) ( about 39.4 inches)
Volume the amount of space an object occupies. Metric units are Liter for the liquids, Cubic centimeter for the solids.
Mass a measure of the amount of matter in an object
Weight a measure of the pull of gravity on that mass
