Vocab WordDefinition
1) Cell the smallest unit of life that can carry out the processes of life.
2) Cytoplasm The region of the cell where, inside the plasma membrane, that includes the fluid, the cytoskelelton, and all of the organelles except the nucleus.
3) Cytosol The part of the cytoplasm that includes molecules and small particles, but does not include membrane-bound organelles.
4) Prokaryote Organisms that lack a membrane-bound nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.
5) Eukaryote Organisms that are made up of one or more cells that have a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles.

7) Cytoskelelton A network of thin tubes and filaments that crisscrosses the cytosol.
8) Microtubule A tiny tube of protein inside a cell that occurs singly or in groups.
9) Microfilament Long threads of protein that connected end to end are wrapped around each other like two strands of rope.
10) Cilium Short and presented in large numbers; hairlike structures that extend from the surface of the cell where they assist in movement.
11) Flagellum Long and not a lot of them on the cell; hairlike structures that extend from the surface of the cell where they assist in movement.
12) Plastid Organelles that are surrounded by a double membrane and contain their own DNA.
