Polar Molecule a molecule in which charges are unevenly distributed
Hydrogen Bond Attraction between the Hydrogen atom on one water molecule and the oxygen atom on another (holds water molecules together)
Cohension attraction between molecules of the same substances
Adhension attraction between molecules of different substances
Mixture a material composed of two or more compounds that are physically mixed together but NOT chemically combined
Solution All components are evenly distributed
Solute the substance that is dissolved
Solvent the substance in which the solute dissolves
Suspensions mixtures of water and nondissolved material
pH scale a measurement system to indicate the concentration of Hydrogen ions
Acids any compound that forms hydrogen ions in a solution
Bases compound that produces hydroxide ions
Buffers Weak acids or bases that can react with strong acids or bases to prevent sharp or sudden changes in pH.
