| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Polar Molecule | a molecule in which charges are unevenly distributed |
| Hydrogen Bond | Attraction between the Hydrogen atom on one water molecule and the oxygen atom on another (holds water molecules together) |
| Cohension | attraction between molecules of the same substances |
| Adhension | attraction between molecules of different substances |
| Mixture | a material composed of two or more compounds that are physically mixed together but NOT chemically combined |
| Solution | All components are evenly distributed |
| Solute | the substance that is dissolved |
| Solvent | the substance in which the solute dissolves |
| Suspensions | mixtures of water and nondissolved material |
| pH scale | a measurement system to indicate the concentration of Hydrogen ions |
| Acids | any compound that forms hydrogen ions in a solution |
| Bases | compound that produces hydroxide ions |
| Buffers | Weak acids or bases that can react with strong acids or bases to prevent sharp or sudden changes in pH. |
