What is biology? Science that seeks to understand the living world.
What is an organism? An individual living thing.
Cell A collection os living matter enclosed by a carrier that seperates it from its surroundings.
Unicellular A single-celled organism.
Multicellular A many-celled organism.
Sexual reproduction Process by which cells from two different parents unite to produce a new organism.
Asexual reproduction Process by which a single parents reproduces.
Genetic code Determines the inherited traits of every organism on earth.
DNA Molecule that carries the directions for inheritance.
Differentiation The development of many types of cells with many different functions from a single original cell.
Photosynthesis Process by which plants and some organisms use light energy to create sugars and starches.
Chemical Reaction Process that changes one set of chemicals inro another set.
Molecule Smallest unuit of most compounds.
Stimulus A signal to which an organism responds.
Homeostasis Process by which organisms maintain a relatively stable internal environment.
Evolution Change in a kind of organism over time.
Metabolism The combination of chemical reactions through which an organism builds up or breaks down materials.
